POKOTABI / Sushi Taichi
寿し太一
Tucked along a back alley in Yushima 3-chome, Sushi Taichi welcomes guests for an unpretentious omakase of seasonal sashimi, thoughtful appetisers, and Edomae nigiri seasoned with red vinegar.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
A short step off the main thoroughfare of Yushima 3-chome leads to the calm facade of Sushi Taichi. Counter seating occupies the 1st floor, while a tatami mat room on the 2nd floor offers a peaceful setting well suited for conversation and small gatherings.
The evening meal unfolds through a seasonal omakase course. Guests are discreetly asked about dietary preferences before colorful sashimi platters and intricately prepared small plates begin to arrive. Items such as soy-marinated lean tuna, spear squid stuffed in inro style, and gizzard shad paired with thinly sliced pickled turnip reveal careful kitchen work that pairs naturally with sake. When the nigiri follows, the red-vinegar seasoned sushi rice parts gently on the palate, carrying highlights from rich sea urchin gunkanmaki to tender, fluffy simmered sea eel.
Alongside its dinner omakase, the shop also draws diners at midday for limited lunch offerings, including vibrantly arranged barachirashi and generously topped simmered sea eel rice bowls. With unpretentious hospitality and measured culinary craftsmanship, sipping sake over a progression of well-composed dishes makes for an experience of quiet satisfaction.
